Out of the Park Sparkling Shiraz

McLaren Vale, South Australia

Benjamin Hammerschlag’s family arrived in the States from Germany in the late 1800’s. His great-great grandfather married a young girl by the name of Flegenheimer and joined her family’s business as New York Wine Merchants

From Brooklyn to Yonkers, Hoboken to Newark, Flegenheimer Bros dealt exclusively in quality beverages. The business was established in 1876 and was still flourishing in 1919 when the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages was outlawed in the United States through Prohibition.

McLaren Vale, South Australia

Hammerschlag’s McLaren Vale vineyard consists of ironstone and clay over limestone and benefits from cool maritime breezes each afternoon. Upon securing this location, Hammerschlag got to work in the vineyard selecting 2 clones of Shiraz: 1654,which is very typical of South Australia and Tabhilk, sourced from the oldest winery in Victoria and more reminiscent of the northern Rhone.

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc

Margaret River, Western Australia

Exhibits the lively fruit aromas of sauvignon blanc - This variety is harvested early to maximise its potential in the Semillon blend. The fruit is destemmed into the press, in a similar fashion to the Moss Wood Semillon, drained and pressed and then settled in stainless steel tanks. It is then racked and fermented in stainless steel at 15°C. There is no lees stirring post-fermentation for the Sauvignon Blanc. It should retain its freshest, most lifted aromas of leaf, grass and lychee.
